In the first big surprise of the YoHealth Malta Premier League, newly-promoted Tarxien Rainbows held current champions Ħamrun Spartans to a 1-1 draw, only suffering the equaliser in the 76th minute.
As expected, Ħamrun’s coach Giacomo Modica rested several key players ahead of their Conference League play-off against Latvian side RFS next Thursday.
Ħamrun will certainly be hoping that Jovan Cadjenovic’s injury isn’t serious, after he was forced off just 13 minutes into the match.
Only four minutes had passed when Tarxien went ahead, with Nhayson Da Silva’s right-wing cross met by a header from Erico Junior.
Ħamrun pushed hard and dominated the game, finally scoring the equaliser in the 76th minute. Substitute Ante Coric took a free kick from the right, and Vincenzo Polito put the ball past Cassar.
