Marsaxlokk kicked off their YoHealth Malta Premier League campaign with a convincing 3-1 win over Mosta. New signing Marcelo Barros, who previously played for Żabbar, put in a Man of the Match performance, scoring twice.
In the 16th minute, Marsaxlokk took the lead when El Hasni played a long ball to Santos, who beat goalkeeper Demba at the edge of the box and calmly put the ball into the net.
In the 28th minute, Mosta equalised from a corner taken by Goncalves on the right. Captain Brincat rose highest and headed the ball into the goal to make it 1-1.
Two minutes into the second half, in the 47th minute, Marsaxlokk regained the lead. Corbalan sent in a cross from the right, and Santos was unmarked in the box to head home his second goal of the match.
Marsaxlokk extended their lead in the 54th minute after a move that started on the right with Arias. He passed to Majok, who delivered a low cross into the box, where Soares got ahead of the defender and scored to make it 3-1.
