Floriana strengthened their position at the top of the YoHealth Malta Premier League with a narrow 1-0 win over Sliema Wanderers in the Old Firm derby.
The only goal came in the 70th minute when Federico Varela cleverly chipped the ball over goalkeeper Rashed Al Tumi to give the Greens the lead.
Sliema had early chances, including a strong effort from Fernandinho and a header from Uros Duranovic, but were unable to break down Floriana’s defence. In the final minutes, Sliema pushed for an equaliser but Floriana held firm to secure all three points.
The win moves Floriana five points clear at the top, while Sliema remain in seventh place and must rely on other results to reach the Top 6.
