Marsaxlokk take on Ħamrun Spartans on Saturday at the Gozo Stadium in a key YoHealth Malta Premier Top 6 Closing Round encounter.
Both teams are aiming to start this important phase with a positive result as they continue their push towards their season objectives, including qualification for European competitions and the league title.
Marsaxlokk player Dodo admitted the match is special for him after spending several years with Ħamrun Spartans, but stressed that his full focus is now on helping Marsaxlokk achieve their targets.
He said the team is determined to bounce back after dropping points against Valletta FC in a match they felt they could have won. Dodo also explained that returning to rhythm after a long break is not easy, but the squad used the time to prepare well.
Marsaxlokk coach Enzo Potenza highlighted the importance of consistency, saying that a team cannot be judged on just one match. He praised the effort shown by his players throughout the season and recognised the strength of Ħamrun Spartans, especially after their impressive European campaign earlier this year.
Ħamrun Spartans coach Giacomo Modica said his side must react positively after the recent defeat against Mosta FC. He stressed that the team must show the right mentality and work hard in order to improve their goal-scoring performances.
Captain Henry Bonello said the players remain fully motivated despite a long and demanding season. He explained that winning the league remains the main objective, especially after missing out on other trophies this season.

With both teams determined to finish the campaign strongly with Ħamrun trying to avoid the play-offs and become champions in the Closing Round, while Marsaxlokk aiming for Europe, Saturday’s encounter promises to be a competitive and exciting start to the Top 6 Closing Round.
