Malta Sport has learnt that Birkirkara FC have acquired the services of Ghanaian midfielder Geoffrey Acheampong, marking a key addition to their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
Acheampong, 28, brings with him a wealth of international experience, having previously played in the United States, Mexico, France, and most recently in the Swedish lower divisions. Known for his technical ability and creativity in the middle of the park, Acheampong is expected to inject dynamism and depth into the Stripes’ midfield.
The left-footed playmaker began his career at the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana before moving to the U.S., where he featured for LA Galaxy II and the Santa Barbara Gauchos in college football. His career then took him to Bastia in France, with further stints in Finland, Mexico and Sweden, showcasing his adaptability across different football cultures.
Locally, Acheampong is no stranger to Maltese football. Brought originally by Mosta F.C. last season, he featured 14 times for Sliema Wanderers in the Premier League, gaining valuable experience in the domestic competition and underlining his readiness to make an immediate impact at Birkirkara.
With the club aiming to build on last season’s campaign and mount a strong challenge in both domestic competitions and European qualifiers, Acheampong’s arrival is seen as a statement of intent by the Stripes’ management.
Club sources highlighted Acheampong’s leadership qualities, vision, and strong work ethic, traits that have made him a fan favourite wherever he has played. The Ghanaian expressed his excitement to start this new chapter in Malta, stating he’s ready to give his all for the team and help Birkirkara compete at the highest level.
Acheampong’s signing reflects Birkirkara’s ambition to blend international talent with local strength, as they prepare for a busy summer both on and off the pitch.
