Birkirkara FC is proud to announce the appointment of Roderick Briffa as the club’s new Sporting Director, marking a heartfelt return to his roots for one of Malta’s most decorated football figures. A former Maltese international and product of the Birkirkara Youth Academy, Briffa brings with him a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the club’s identity and values.
Briffa, who officially announced his retirement from professional football yesterday, steps into this strategic role with the aim of strengthening both the senior squad and the club’s Youth Academy pipeline. He will play a vital role in supporting the first team, while also nurturing young talent within the Academy to ensure a seamless transition from youth to senior football—crucial for the club’s long-term success.
“Birkirkara has always been home to me,” said Briffa in his first words following the appointment. “After over a decade as a player, I’m proud to return in a new role to help shape the future of this club I love.”
With over 100 appearances for the Malta National Team, Briffa brings unrivalled experience and leadership to Birkirkara’s technical structure. His in-depth knowledge of both the local and international football landscape positions him perfectly to lead talent development, recruitment, and strategic sporting operations.
Club President Mr. Michael Valenzia welcomed Briffa back with open arms:
“We are delighted to welcome Roderick back to the club where it all started. With 100 national team appearances to his name, we are bringing in a wealth of experience and know-how that will surely benefit the club as a whole. As Sporting Director, we’ve added further quality to our already competent technical staff, and we look forward to the season ahead with confidence.”
Briffa’s appointment reflects Birkirkara FC’s commitment to long-term planning, homegrown talent, and continuity within its footballing philosophy. His mission is clear: bridge the gap between youth and senior football, uphold the club’s standards, and drive future success both on and off the pitch.
Birkirkara FC would like to warmly welcome Roderick Briffa back home, and we wish him every success in his new chapter at the heart of the club.
