Floriana and Birkirkara aim to book a place in the next round

Today, both Floriana and Birkirkara will play the second leg of their UEFA Conference League First Qualifying Round ties, after starting with wins at home in Malta.

Floriana are in Wales, where they will face Haverfordwest County at Parc-Y-Scarlets Stadium. The Greens are looking to defend or build on their 2-1 lead from the first leg. Last week at the Centenary Stadium, they came from behind after conceding in the 27th minute. Floriana equalised just before half-time, and took the lead in the 59th minute through a penalty from Jake Grech. After the match, coach Daniel Portela said that the return leg would be tougher and that the team needs to improve to secure another win.

Meanwhile, Birkirkara also claimed a home victory, beating Moldovan side Petrocub 1-0 and now will play away from home at the Stadionul Zimbru in Chisinau. The winning goal came from former Sliema Wanderers midfielder Geoffrey Acheampong.

Despite the win, Birkirkara know the second leg will be challenging, as Petrocub proved they are capable of creating dangerous chances. Still, the Stripes showed grit and determination in the first leg, and with the same mindset and fighting spirit, they will be aiming to move on to the next round.

Before kick-off, Birkirkara will hold a minute of silence in memory of their former president, Mr. Victor Zammit. The club formally requested UEFA’s permission for this tribute, which has been respectfully approved. They will also wear black armbands.

Both games will be played at 7pm Malta time.
