The Christian Degabriele Memorial Cup returns this August for its fourth edition, once again bringing together local football clubs for a meaningful cause.
Organised in collaboration with Paola Kordin Football Club, this tournament not only offers exciting matches but also honours the memory of ex AFM soldier Christian Degabriele, who tragically passed away in 2022, leaving behind a wife and young daughter.
This year’s competition features four teams: Paola Kordin, Ħamrun Sporting, Armed Forces of Malta and tournament newcomers Gzira United. Matches will be played over three matchdays:
Tuesday 26 August 2025 – Semi Final 1
Wednesday 27 August 2025 – Semi Final 2
Thursday 11 September 2025 – Final

The semi finals will take place at the Kirkop United Football Ground, with the final venue to be announced soon.
Each team brings its own connection to Christian and the community.
Paola Kordin, where Christian played, are the hosts and two-time winners, and will face Gzira United in the first semi final. Gzira United are making their first appearance in the tournament.
Ħamrun Sporting, co-hosts of the tournament, will take on the Armed Forces of Malta in the second semi final. Ħamrun have twice finished as runners-up, while AFM are the defending champions. Their squad includes many of Christian’s former colleagues, giving added significance to their involvement.
Proceeds from the event will go towards the Karl Vella Foundation, which supports children whose parents are facing serious illness or have passed away.
The Christian Degabriele Memorial Cup has become more than just a football tournament. It is a celebration of life, community and compassion, a chance to come together in memory of a loved one, while supporting a noble cause.
