Swieqi United and Gżira United booked their places in the last 16 of the Meridianbet FA Trophy following separate victories against Sliema Wanderers and St Andrews respectively.
Swieqi United eliminated Sliema Wanderers with a 2-1 win. The Challenge League side opened the scoring in the 82nd minute through Isaac Davey, putting the Premier League side under pressure in the closing stages. Sliema responded in stoppage time when Roko Prsa scored the equaliser, briefly restoring parity.
However, Swieqi United regained the lead shortly afterwards as Samuel Okoh found the net to secure qualification. Despite fielding a strong line up, Sliema Wanderers were unable to recover, bringing their FA Trophy campaign to an end. The result followed their recent defeat in the Jubilee Cup final.
In a separate tie, Gżira United continued their positive form with a 2-0 victory over St Andrews. After a goalless first half, Martinez broke the deadlock on 63 minutes before Carlos added a second goal eight minutes later to confirm progression.
The FA Trophy last 16 matches are scheduled to be played later this month.
