Starting next season, referees in Italy’s Serie A will begin announcing their VAR decisions directly to fans at the stadium and on television.
Referee chief Gianluca Rocchi said the aim is to improve communication and help fans understand decisions more quickly and clearly.
“We’ve chosen a small group of referees for this and want them all to speak in the same way, so the messages are clear to everyone,” Rocchi explained.
Other countries, such as England and Germany, have also tested similar systems where referees explain their decisions out loud to the crowd.
The new Serie A season begins on 23 August.
