Parma shock AC Milan at San Siro

AC Milan’s hopes of winning Serie A suffered a big setback after they lost 1-0 at home to Parma. The defeat ended Milan’s 24-match unbeaten run in the league and left them 10 points behind league leaders Inter Milan.

Milan knew they needed to win, especially after Inter had beaten Lecce the day before. However, Parma almost scored early on when Mateo Pellegrino’s shot was deflected wide. Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan then made a good save from the corner.

Things got worse for Milan when Ruben Loftus-Cheek had to be taken off on a stretcher after colliding with Parma goalkeeper Edoardo Corvi. Ardon Jashari came on as his replacement and soon had a shot, but it was easily saved.

Milan began to improve slightly before half-time. Christian Pulisic and Jashari both tested Corvi, but without success. Pulisic later missed a good chance from close range after a header back from Adrien Rabiot. The first half ended without much excitement.

After the break, Milan attacked more strongly. Corvi made an excellent save to stop Rafael Leão, and Mariano Troilo blocked Pulisic’s follow-up effort. Leão later hit the post, showing Milan’s frustration. Despite their pressure, Milan struggled to create clear chances. Strahinja Pavlović also missed with a header from a free-kick.

Parma then took their chance. Troilo scored with a powerful header from Emanuele Valeri’s corner. At first, the goal looked like it might be disallowed, but after a VAR review, it was given.

Milan pushed for an equaliser late on. Substitute Niclas Füllkrug had a chance in stoppage time but shot wide. It was a very disappointing evening for Milan.

This was Milan’s second home league defeat of the season, and their title hopes now look very unlikely. Meanwhile, Parma celebrated a brave and impressive win, their third league victory in a row, moving them up to 12th place.
