Cristian Chivu enjoyed the perfect start to life in Serie A management as Inter swept aside Torino five-nil, their biggest victory over the Granata since the 1958-59 season.
Inter went in front after 18 minutes when Alessandro Bastoni met a Nicolo Barella corner with a deft near post header that looped over goalkeeper Franco Israel into the far corner.
The hosts doubled their lead before the interval. Marcus Thuram pounced on slack defending and slid a tidy finish into the side netting.
Any hope of a Torino response vanished shortly after the restart. Lautaro Martinez stretched to punish a wayward back pass and steered in Inter’s third.
The Nerazzurri pressed home their advantage beyond the hour. Thuram rose highest to nod in a precise Bastoni cross, before substitute Ange Yoan Bonny completed the scoring after Martinez forced another defensive error and unselfishly laid the ball across.
With reigning champions Napoli opening with a win of their own, Inter’s emphatic display put them top of the early Serie A table. It is also the first time since 2003 that Inter have won on the opening matchday under a foreign-born coach.
