Inter close in on Napoli with strong win over Torino

Inter kept their Scudetto hopes alive with a solid 2-0 win away to Torino, moving just one point behind league leaders Napoli after the latter dropped points in a 2-2 draw against Genoa.

Fresh off their dramatic Champions League semi-final win over Barcelona, Inter boss Simone Inzaghi made several changes to the starting line-up. Only Yann Bisseck and Alessandro Bastoni remained from the midweek match.

Despite an early pause due to an incident in the stands, Inter got off to a quick start. Nicola Zalewski opened the scoring with a brilliant solo effort, turning away from his defender and curling the ball into the bottom corner—his first goal for the club.

Inter could have made it 2-0 shortly after, but Matteo Darmian’s shot missed the target. As heavy rain poured down in Turin, the game was stopped briefly just before half-time due to the worsening pitch conditions.

Once the game resumed, Torino relied on crosses into the box, and nearly equalised when Ché Adams connected with a ball from Cristiano Biraghi. But Inter’s backup keeper, Josep Martínez, made an impressive diving save.

After a longer-than-usual break for a pitch inspection, the second half began with a bang. Inter were awarded a penalty when Mehdi Taremi was fouled, and Kristjan Asllani calmly scored from the spot to double the lead.

Torino’s goalkeeper Vanja Milinković-Savić was kept busy, pulling off several saves to keep out Dimarco, Correa, and Çalhanoğlu. Torino had a few late chances, including a deflected shot from Nikola Vlašić and a goal ruled out in stoppage time, but Inter stayed in control.

The win was just Inter’s second away league victory in their last eight attempts, but it comes at the perfect time. With Napoli slipping up against Genoa, Inter are now just one point behind in the title race with two matches to go.
