Inter extended their winning streak to three Serie A matches, beating Cagliari 3-0 at the Unipol Domus.
Cagliari hoped to bounce back from their recent loss to Venezia, but facing Inter, who had been unbeaten in 11 league matches, was a tough challenge. Cagliari defended well early on, even though Lautaro Martínez missed a good chance, heading Nicolò Barella’s cross just over the bar.
Despite some fast counter-attacks from Cagliari and a powerful shot from Barella that forced a brilliant save from Simone Scuffet, the score stayed 0-0 at half-time. Cagliari avoided going behind for the 10th time this season, while Inter remained the only Serie A team not trailing at the break.
Inter broke the deadlock early in the second half when Alessandro Bastoni scored with a looping header from Barella’s cross. Cagliari made changes, but Martínez soon added a second, scoring against his favourite Serie A team with another precise cross from Barella. Cagliari’s Mateusz Wieteska then gave away a penalty, which Hakan Çalhanoğlu calmly converted into the left corner.
Inter comfortably held on for the win, finishing 2024 with their 27th victory of the year. They are now unbeaten in 12 league matches, with their last defeat coming in September against AC Milan. Meanwhile, Cagliari remain in the relegation zone after suffering their 10th loss of the season, with five consecutive defeats marking their worst run since February.
