Claudio Ranieri has been appointed as the new head coach of AS Roma, agreeing to terms for a contract running until June 2025. His first training session is scheduled for Thursday.
The veteran coach, who met with Roma owner Dan Friedkin in London on Wednesday, has officially signed the contract after discussions about the team’s plans for the remainder of the season.
Ranieri’s appointment comes after a tumultuous period for Roma, who have now had four different managers this calendar year. José Mourinho was dismissed in January, followed by Daniele De Rossi’s brief tenure, and Ivan Juric, who lasted less than two months before being let go after a mixed run of results.
This will be Ranieri’s third time managing Roma, having previously been in charge from 2009 to 2011 and then again in a caretaker role in 2019. The 73-year-old had announced his retirement in June after guiding Cagliari to Serie A promotion but has now returned to the Giallorossi in a pivotal role.
