San Ġwann Pro Evolution Academy maintained their good progress of late as they saw off champions Senglea Gunners 4-2 to leapfrog three teams in the standings and move on to a safer place.
It was an incredible match decided in the dying minutes of the match with San Ġwann scoring the last two goals to take the three points home.
Luca Anclerc put San Ġwann ahead after six minutes with Tristan Perrin doubling the score 13 minutes after.
Senglea made a good reaction and pulled one back through a penalty scored by Anas Souhaile.
In the second half, the Cottonera side started brightly as they levelled the matters after Nwankwo Moses beat the French goalkeeper to make it 2-2.
San Ġwann stayed concentrated with Lilian Robin coming into the fore and scoring two quickfire goals that gave them the most important victory.
Referee: Reno Galea.
In another rollercoaster of emotions, San Ġiljan Saints and Valletta Stars St Dominic shared the spoils in a 2-2 scoreline.
After surging ahead one minute from the interval, the Saints saw the Citizens’ reaction who restored parity but in the dying seconds two other goals were scored which gave a point to each side.
Ethan Goodman made it 1-0 for the Saints with Anthony Sammut Brown scoring the draw.
On 71 minutes, Robert Veskimae put San Ġiljan Ahead but Valletta Stars didn’t want to lose this match and five minutes from extra time, Deisler Azzopardi Conti made it 2-2.
Referee: Gjorgji Bitri.
In the second division, four teams fired blanks as the two fixtures Attard Edex Kings vs Buġibba Club de SWAT (Referee Peter Abela) and Mqabba Albions vs Żebbuġ Youngsters (Joy Sanu) finished in goalless draws.
After these set of matches, all the four teams involved had little or no change in their table position with the top teams Għaxaq Wolves and Ta’ Ġiorni Wanderers (who were not in action) maintaining their lead.
In the MAFA Third Division, Ħamrun Amateurs strengthened the second position in the table after a 1-0 win over Kalkara Flames.
It wasn’t an easy match for the Red/Blacks who found a solid side and were unlucky not to get at least a point from this encounter.
The all-important goal for Ħamrun was scored on 55 minutes through Jacob Camilleri.
Referee: Saviour Brignone.
Naxxar Victorians lost the chance to keep the pace in the top position of the table as they were held to a 2-2 draw against Mosta Vikings in the derby.
The Victorians were seconds away from losing this match but a late goal at least gave them a point.
Chris Cutajar put them ahead on 8 minutes but Kurt Muscat scored the equalizer for Mosta. The same player put the Vikings ahead in the second half but the Victorians levelled the matters after a Dejan Mijailovic goal.
Referee: Arslan Onur.
