Premier League side Mosta secured their place in the next round of the Meridianbet FA Trophy, but only after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Challenge League outfit Mqabba at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
After a goalless 90 minutes, both teams found the net in extra time. Mosta appeared to have sealed the win when Ibrahim Sani Halliru scored in the 118th minute, but Mqabba responded almost immediately as Luka Mijić equalised just a minute later. The tie was decided on penalties, where Mosta prevailed 4-3.
Birżebbuġa also needed penalties to progress after a tightly contested match against Balzan ended 1-1 after extra time. Yusuf Abdullahi Sulaiman gave Birżebbuġa the lead in the 94th minute, only for Oluwatobiloba Dimeji Awosanya to level for Balzan later on. Birżebbuġa held their nerve in the shootout to win 6-4.
In another encounter at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Fgura United booked their place in the last 16 with a 2-1 victory over Santa Lucia. Adolphus Nagba Marshall opened the scoring in the 21st minute, before Alan Abdel Rahman doubled the lead nine minutes later. Santa Lucia pulled one back in the 80th minute through an own goal by Marshall, but Fgura United held on to secure qualification.
