YoHealth Malta Premier – Closing Round
Marsaxlokk…………….2
Tarxien Rainbows……1
Marsaxlokk claimed their first victory of the YoHealth Malta Premier League Closing Round after a dramatic late goal from Oualid El Hasni secured a 2-1 win over Tarxien Rainbows. The Southerners were eager to bounce back following a 3-0 defeat to Gżira United earlier in the second phase.
The match started positively for Vincenza Potenza’s side, who took the lead after just 15 minutes. Ulises Arias delivered a precise pass to Dodo Soares, who adjusted his body and fired past Tarxien goalkeeper Andrea Cassar.
Tarxien struggled to respond in the opening stages, with few clear scoring opportunities. Marsaxlokk came close to doubling their advantage nine minutes before half-time when Juan Corbalan’s cross found Dodo, but his header went wide. In stoppage time, Nevin Portelli forced a strong save from Cassar, keeping the score at 1-0.
Tarxien finally equalised early in the second half. Nhaysson connected with Da Silva Barbosa’s cross and powered a header past Matthew Calleja Cremona to make it 1-1. Marsaxlokk continued to press, and Cassar was required to produce a spectacular save to deny Leandro Aguirre.
The decisive moment came two minutes from time. Enrico Pepe saw his header strike the post, but El Hasni reacted quickest to fire home and secure a crucial victory for Marsaxlokk.
The result gives Marsaxlokk a valuable boost in confidence as they aim to climb the Premier League standings in the Closing Round, while Tarxien will look to recover in their upcoming fixtures.
