The Malta Football Association (MFA) and the Environment Ministry have announced a €530,000 project aimed at promoting sustainability within local football clubs.
The four-year initiative, led by Project Green, will support clubs in implementing environmental measures, including water conservation for irrigation and landscaping projects to enhance the surroundings of football grounds.

The National Football Centre in Ta’ Qali and the Gozo Stadium will also undergo improvements as part of the scheme.
Environment Minister Miriam Dalli said the collaboration would help sports organisations create greener spaces while fostering a closer connection with the environment.
Sport Minister Clifton Grima highlighted the important role of football clubs in communities, saying they contribute to the holistic development of young people.
Project Green CEO Joseph Cuschieri described the initiative as part of wider efforts to regenerate open spaces, while MFA president Bjorn Vassallo called it an “exciting” project that promotes sustainability and improves quality of life.
The MFA will manage the scheme, and clubs interested in applying for funding under the Green Goal initiative can contact the association at [email protected].
