The head coach of Greece, Gustavo Poyet, said that Luka Modric is the best football player he has coached during his coaching career so far.
The Uruguayan and the Croatian football player worked together in Tottenham when Poyet was part of the London “Singers” coaching staff.
In 2012, Modric moved from Tottenham to Real Madrid, with whom he won 22 trophies, won the Golden Ball, and his contract with the current ruler of Europe expires at the end of the season.
“Of course, he deserves a new contract with Real. He is the best player I have coached in my life, even though it was as an assistant coach. During the months I spent with him, while we were training, I noticed that he is an extraordinary player”, said Poyet and added:
“I have been thinking for years that he is playing his last season, but he seems to be trying to pressure me. His playing level is extremely high.”
After the episode in Tottenham, Poyet independently managed Brighton, Sunderland, AEK, Betis, Shanghai, Bordeaux, and Católica, and since last February he has been leading Greece.
