Luis Díaz is on the verge of completing a high-profile move to Bayern Munich after Liverpool agreed to sell the Colombian winger for a fee of €75 million. The 28-year-old is expected to leave Liverpool’s training camp in Tokyo imminently to undergo a medical with the German champions.
Díaz had signalled his openness to a move as early as summer 2024, and Bayern had long been interested in securing his services. After refusing to lower their valuation, Liverpool finally accepted Bayern’s offer, which reflects both the player’s market value and his importance to the squad.
Signed from Porto in January 2022, Díaz cost Liverpool an initial €45 million, with just €4 million in add-ons triggered. His departure marks the end of a vibrant spell at Anfield, where his flair, work rate, and popularity with fans made him a key figure in the forward line.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot confirmed Díaz’s absence from their recent 4-2 pre-season defeat to AC Milan in Hong Kong was related to the transfer: “In Lucho’s situation, it was, yeah. There are a lot of rumours around it lately, and I cannot go into that. But he is training well with us, and we have decided, for now, not to play him yet.”
The sale adds to Liverpool’s summer overhaul, with major signings including Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike. The club has now raised nearly 190 million in player sales since Richard Hughes was appointed sporting director in June 2024.
Díaz’s move to Bayern is expected to be finalised within 24 hours as Slot prepares his reshaped squad for the next fixture against Yokohama F. Marinos.
