Lionel Messi was involved in a pitch invasion during a friendly match in Puerto Rico on Thursday, as supporters entered the field late in the game.
Messi was representing Inter Miami CF against Independiente del Valle in Bayamon when several fans ran onto the pitch in the 88th minute. One supporter attempted to take a selfie, another requested an autograph, and a third approached Messi from behind. A security guard intervened and tackled the individual, resulting in Messi being knocked to the ground.
The Argentina international did not appear to sustain an injury and quickly returned to his feet before walking away.
The incident occurred near the end of a match that had already experienced disruption. The friendly began approximately one hour later than scheduled due to a disagreement regarding team kit colours. The issue remained unresolved, with both sides ultimately playing in black.
What a shit show this is.

Both teams in black, fans storming the field, and they end up knocking over Messi. Wow.

Messi, who entered as a substitute at the start of the second half, scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot in the 70th minute to secure a 2-1 win for Inter Miami. The Major League Soccer side had taken the lead in the 16th minute through Santi Morales, before Ecuador international Patrik Mercado equalised one minute later.
The fixture had initially been scheduled for 13 February but was postponed due to an injury to Messi. Close to 20,000 spectators attended the match in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, a United States territory, and greeted Messi with a standing ovation when he came onto the pitch.
Messi, an eight time Ballon d Or winner, is expected to represent Argentina national football team at what could be his sixth FIFA World Cup. The tournament will be hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. Messi has not formally confirmed his participation.
