Barcelona has received approval from Spain’s National Sports Council (CSD) to provisionally register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, allowing both players to participate in upcoming matches.
The club initially registered Olmo and Victor for the first half of the season due to LA Liga’s wage cap constraints, with their registrations expiring on December 31. Subsequent appeals to extend their eligibility were denied by Spanish football authorities, citing regulations that prevent re-registering a cancelled license within the same season.
The CSD’s decision to provisionally extend their registrations is pending a final resolution of Barcelona’s appeal. The council emphasized the importance of avoiding significant economic and sporting harm to the club and players, as well as potential negative impacts on Spanish national competitions.
Despite the favourable ruling, neither Olmo nor Victor were included in the squad for Barcelona’s Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Bilbao. Olmo, who joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig in August for approximately €55 million, and Victor were previously registered for the first half of the season, with their registrations expiring on December 31.
This development recalls Barcelona’s previous challenges with player registrations due to financial constraints, notably the difficulties faced in registering Lionel Messi in 2021. The club continues to navigate LaLiga’s economic control regulations to ensure compliance and maintain squad competitiveness.
As the situation evolves, Barcelona will await the final decision on their appeal, which will determine the long-term eligibility of Olmo and Victor for the remainder of the season.
