Mbappé scores late as Real Madrid beat Valencia

Kylian Mbappé scored late on as Real Madrid beat Valencia 2-0 to record their seventh straight La Liga win and move within one point of leaders Barcelona.

After a goalless first half, Álvaro Carreras gave Madrid the lead in the 65th minute when he worked his way past two defenders and finished low into the corner.

Real Madrid had most of the ball early on but struggled to create clear chances against a well-organised Valencia side. They began to look more dangerous as the half went on, with the Valencia goalkeeper making several good saves to keep the score level.

Valencia had chances of their own, with Arnaut Danjuma and Lucas Beltrán both going close, but they were unable to score.

Mbappé sealed the win in stoppage time, tapping in from close range to score his 38th goal of the season. The victory keeps the title race tight, with Real Madrid now just one point behind Barcelona.

Valencia remain 17th in the table and are only one point above the relegation zone, having played a game more than the teams below them.

Trent Alexander-Arnold returned to action for Real Madrid after two months out with a thigh injury, coming on in the second half. Jude Bellingham was again absent as he continues to recover from a hamstring problem.
