Veteran defender Sergio Ramos has joined Mexican club Monterrey on a one-year contract, the club confirmed on Thursday. The 38-year-old former Spain international will bolster the squad ahead of their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup later this year.
Ramos, who made his La Liga debut with Sevilla during the 2003-04 season, rose to prominence after joining Real Madrid in 2005. Over a 16-year spell at the Santiago Bernabéu, he won 22 major honours, including five La Liga titles, four Champions League trophies, and four FIFA Club World Cups.
Following his departure from Real Madrid in 2021, Ramos moved to Paris Saint-Germain, where he added two Ligue 1 titles to his decorated career. After a brief return to Sevilla, Ramos has now opted for a new challenge with Monterrey.
On the international stage, Ramos retired in 2023, having been an integral part of Spain’s golden generation. He was a key figure in the team that won the 2010 FIFA World Cup and back-to-back European Championships in 2008 and 2012. His leadership and experience are expected to be vital for Monterrey as they aim to make an impact on the global stage.
