France is preparing for the UEFA Nations League commintments, facing Italy in the first match of Group 1 in League A. They will do so without Adrien Rabiot, who is still without a team and excluded by Didier Deschamps who described the fact as “An embarrassing situation.”
After the expiration of his contract with Juventus, the 1995-born player has not found a new club, partly due to his high financial demands. This setback convinced the French coach not to call up Rabiot for the September matches, and on the eve of the game against the Italians at Parc des Princes in Paris, Deschamps addressed the issue.
During the press conference ahead of France vs. Italy, Deschamps responded to a question about why Rabiot is still without a club: “Rabiot is in a somewhat embarrassing situation. He had a 100% choice, as he was out of contract and was approached by several teams. But now he is without a team and not training within a group. I hope he can quickly choose a club that can then bring him back with us.”
Rabiot was clearly not the only topic discussed during Deschamps’ press conference. France is starting a fresh page after the disappointment of Euro 2024.
“Our lack of effectiveness hindered us in the last European Championship, but we still made it to the semifinals. There are two matches in three days, regardless of who takes the field, the ultimate goal remains the same: to achieve the best possible result. These are not friendly matches, it’s the Nations League. Italy has also made various changes after the Euros, unfortunately, criticism has always been present, and our goal must always be maximum.” Deschamps said.
