Malta head coach Emilio De Leo has called on his side to show courage and belief as they prepare for tomorrow’s UEFA Nations League playoff second leg away to Luxembourg, with kick-off at 6:00 PM.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, De Leo was straightforward about where Malta fell short in the first leg. The team missed too many chances and were not sharp enough at the back, conceding twice without scoring. However, he was keen to stress that the performance was not all negative, with several opportunities created that could have changed the outcome.
The squad has spent the week working on those missed chances and sharpening their decision-making. De Leo insists Malta will approach the game boldly. “One goal changes everything,” he said, pointing to the shift in momentum that a single strike could bring.

A blow to the squad came with the early departure of captain Teddy Teuma, who returned to Belgium during the day. De Leo paid tribute to his influence, noting that the words Teuma left with the group were a strong source of inspiration.
Goalkeeper Henry Bonello was equally honest, admitting that confidence has at times been an issue, but insisting the belief is there. “I believe in this team,” he said. “Personality will make the difference.”
Luxembourg hold the advantage going into the second leg, but Malta are not giving up.
