Manchester City football coach Pep Guardiola apologized today to former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard for his statements at the previous press conference.
The Premier League has experienced a strange season, with Arsenal currently leading the way ahead of Manchester City, while Liverpool and Chelsea battle for supremacy in the middle of the table. Guardiola’s side, despite being reinforced in the summer by the formidable Erling Haaland, have not been performing at their usual level. However, they are still in the championship race and have a chance to topple Arsenal from the top spot.
Guardiola’s frustration has been growing each week, particularly in light of the Premier League’s accusations against his club. This frustration was evident at the previous press conference when he made comments about Gerrard’s mistake in the Chelsea derby in 2014 that helped City win the Premier League.
“I don’t know if we are responsible for Steven Gerrard slipping at Anfield? Was it our fault? The Premier League will decide, but I know what we won and how we won, but if something happened in 2009 or 2010, it cannot be changed now,” said Guardiola last week.
At today’s press conference, Guardiola apologized for these comments, stating that he stands by the statement he made in defense of the club, but that he should not have implicated Gerrard. Many have been questioning Guardiola’s future on the bench of the English champions, and his recent outburst has only fueled these rumors.
Despite the turbulence, Manchester City will continue their quest for the long-coveted Champions League trophy next week. Guardiola will be hoping to put this incident behind him and focus on leading his team to victory on the pitch.
