Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp spoke highly of the new addition to the Anfield team and pointed out that Cody Gakpo is a “young player with a lot of potential”.
Gakpo signed a £40m deal with Liverpool last night.
The Dutch national team member and former PSV forward stood out at the World Cup in Qatar, scoring three goals in three games.
“He is a player with great potential. If he had already scored 40 goals in Spain or elsewhere, he would not be available for us,” Klopp said at a press conference.
He also stated that the transfer of Gakpo will affect the rest of the transfer window.
“We know what we want to do and we will see if we can succeed in it. Of course, it is a question of money, but first of all it is a question of finding the right players and we are very happy that Cody has arrived with us”, said Klopp.
In addition to Liverpool, Manchester United was also interested in Gakpo.
According to the German expert, the young striker could make his debut for Liverpool on January 7 in the FA Cup match against Wolverhampton.
