FIFA issued a statement that semi-automatic offside technology, the so-called SAOT, will be used at this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
As stated by the International Football Federation, this technology is intended solely to speed up and make referee decisions more reliable.
Also, the offside technology makes it possible to determine the position of the player and the ball at any time, thus facilitating the detection of an illegal position.
FIFA decided that during Mondial in Qatar, 12 cameras will be used for this technology, and they will be placed under the roof of the stadium.
It will locate 29 points on each player’s body, 50 times per second, thus calculating their exact position on the pitch.
Also, a sensor will be placed inside the ball that will send data to the operating room 500 times per second.
In addition, the offside confirmation will be broadcast in 3D animation on screens in the stadium and in direct television broadcast.
