Sunderland climbed to second place in the Premier League with a thrilling 2-1 win at Chelsea, ending the Blues’ four-game winning streak.
Chelsea took an early lead after just four minutes when Pedro Neto set up Alejandro Garnacho, who scored his first goal for the club. Sunderland gradually found their rhythm, and Wilson Isidor equalised from close range after a chaotic long throw into Chelsea’s box.
The home side pushed to regain the lead before half-time, with Roefs saving a sliding back-post shot from Garnacho and Chalobah firing over from distance.
In the second half, Sunderland stayed solid at the back, limiting Chelsea to half-chances. Their patience paid off in stoppage time when substitute Brian Brobbey held up the ball and passed to Chemsdine Talbi, who scored the winner.
Sunderland are now unbeaten in 14 away league games against London clubs (W5, D9). Chelsea drop to seventh in the table, three points behind Sunderland.
