Jannik Sinner defeated Alex de Minaur in straight sets at the Vienna Open on Saturday, winning 6-3, 6-4. This was Sinner’s 12th win in 12 meetings against the Australian. He will now face either Alexander Zverev or Lorenzo Musetti in the final.
The 24-year-old Italian is chasing his fourth title of the year, after wins at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and in Beijing. He is also competing with Carlos Alcaraz for the year-end number one ranking, with both players in the Paris Masters next week.
Sinner retired due to cramps at the Shanghai Masters three weeks ago but has yet to drop a set in Vienna, where he also won in 2023. Before this semi-final, he hadn’t faced a break point in the tournament.
He quickly won the first four games of the semi-final, with De Minaur breaking once in the first set. In the second set, De Minaur briefly challenged Sinner, but the top seed broke again to seal the win. This marks Sinner’s 20th consecutive victory on indoor hard courts.
