Watch: Mohamed Salah scores stoppage-time penalty at Turf Moor

Liverpool produced yet another late moment of drama as Mohamed Salah’s stoppage-time penalty preserved their perfect Premier League start and left Burnley heartbroken.

The hosts appeared to have frustrated the champions until substitute Hannibal handled Jeremie Frimpong’s cross deep into five added minutes, giving Salah the chance to fire home from the spot in front of jubilant travelling supporters.

Burnley were seconds away from becoming the first team to take points off Liverpool this season when Salah struck.

Head coach Arne Slot opted to leave £125m British record signing Alexander Isak out of the squad as the striker continues to build fitness, and his side quickly found themselves up against a resilient Burnley side.

The Clarets offered little threat going forward but defended doggedly. Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka produced an outstanding save from Dominik Szoboszlai after the break, while substitute Federico Chiesa narrowly missed the target with a header moments after coming on.

Burnley’s task grew harder in the final minutes when Lesley Ugochukwu was dismissed for a second yellow card, having earlier fouled Alexis Mac Allister before bringing down Florian Wirtz.

Liverpool kept piling on the pressure and were eventually rewarded, extending their run of late winners — all of their league victories this season have come courtesy of goals in the final 10 minutes, including stoppage-time strikes at Newcastle and now Turf Moor.

For Burnley, it was a bitter repeat, as they have now suffered defeat to stoppage-time penalties twice this season, the other coming at Manchester United.
