Manchester United have confirmed their first signing of the summer by completing a deal for Matheus Cunha from Wolves. The club triggered his £62.5 million release clause to secure the transfer.
Cunha is set to sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with an option to extend it for another year.
In an official statement, Manchester United said:
“Manchester United has reached agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha. Everyone at Manchester United looks forward to welcoming Matheus to Old Trafford.”
The 26-year-old Brazilian striker was in Manchester over the weekend to finalise the move. The deal is still subject to visa and registration approval.
Cunha, who has 13 caps for Brazil, scored 18 goals in all competitions for Wolves this season and was named their Player of the Year. Since joining Wolves from Atletico Madrid in January 2023, he scored 33 goals in 92 matches.
United activated the release clause to make Cunha the first signing under new manager Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United had a poor season, finishing 15th in the Premier League – their lowest since 1973/74 – and also lost the Europa League final to Tottenham.
