Alexander Isak has said he feels “amazing” after completing his move to Liverpool from Newcastle United.
“It’s been a long journey to get here, but I’m super happy to finally be part of this team, this club, and everything it stands for,” Isak told Liverpool’s website.
“I’m just happy it’s done now and I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates, seeing the fans, and getting back out on the pitch.”
Isak also posted on Instagram, saying “promises were broken” by Newcastle and that “the relationship can’t continue,” showing how strongly he wanted the move.
He added:
“I think I have a lot to give and a lot to improve. I’m a striker, but I want to contribute more than just goals. I want to win everything.”
Liverpool signed Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for a British record fee of £130 million. The club will pay £125 million, while Isak gave up a £5 million loyalty bonus to help the deal go through. He signed a six-year contract after completing his medical in Kirkby on Monday, following a late agreement between the two clubs on Sunday night.
Earlier in the transfer window, Newcastle had turned down an offer of around £110 million and insisted that Isak was not for sale. However, after they signed striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart for a club-record £69 million, Newcastle became open to negotiating.
Isak had pushed for the move, even publicly stating on Instagram that “promises were broken” and “the relationship can’t continue.” At Newcastle, he scored 62 goals in 109 games, including 54 in the Premier League, and finished just behind Mohamed Salah in last season’s Golden Boot race.
