Manchester City has announced that striker Erling Haaland has signed a new nine-and-a-half-year contract, extending his stay at the club until the summer of 2034. This extension replaces his previous deal, which was set to expire in 2027.
The 24-year-old Norwegian has been prolific since joining City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, netting 111 goals in 126 appearances. His contributions have been instrumental in the club securing two Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the FA Cup during his tenure.
Under the terms of the new contract, Haaland becomes the first Premier League player to earn £500,000 per week in basic salary, with potential earnings reaching up to £750,000 per week through image rights. The total value of the contract is estimated to be close to £250 million, making it one of the most lucrative in sporting history.
Significantly, the new agreement removes the release clauses from his previous contract, reinforcing Haaland’s commitment to Manchester City.
Haaland enthusiastically said, “I’m here to stay.” Manchester City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, commented on the extension, highlighting Haaland’s professionalism and significant influence on the team.
This contract extension is pivotal for Manchester City, as the club is rebuilding and facing charges over alleged rule breaches. Securing Haaland’s long-term services is seen as a major boost to the club’s future ambitions.
