The foundation of the RMYC Sailing School was laid when the Club moved to its current premises in Ta’ Xbiex, incorporating the idea of a sailing school into its plans. This vision took shape in 2013 with SailCoach’s arrival, running ILCA Class clinics and building a solid groundwork. The School officially launched in 2015 with an initial fleet of RS Visions and a UK coach leading summer courses. Over the years, the fleet expanded to include RS Fevas, Laser Bugs, and Optimists, providing opportunities for sailors of all levels.
From its humble beginnings, the RMYC Sailing School has struck a balance between nurturing beginners and preparing sailors for competitive success. Many graduates, including standout names like Katrina Micallef, the Schultheis siblings, and Ethan Kodjaazliev, have competed in prestigious international regattas, proudly representing Malta.
Despite losing part of its allocated area, the School has thrived through innovative solutions and unwavering stakeholder support. This resilience has cemented the RMYC Sailing School as a cornerstone of Malta’s sailing legacy.
A celebratory evening marked this decade of achievement, with recognition given to the individuals who have shaped the School’s journey. Notable attendees included former Commodore Godwin Zammit, SailCoach Founder Trevor Millar, and long-standing coaches Alex Denisiuc and Ruya Cakmakli.
