Empoli secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia on Wednesday, defeating Fiorentina 4-3 in a penalty shootout.
Sebastiano Esposito scored the winning penalty after also scoring the goal that brought the match level at 2-2, sending the game to the crucial shootout.
This was Fiorentina’s first match since Edoardo Bove’s collapse.
On Thursday night Lazio host Napoli in another Round of 16 match.
