Eddie Howe: We have to win, draws are not enough

Eddie Howe summed up his impressions after the draw with the Norwich team and concluded that his team must only go for victories.

The Newcastle team did not record much success yesterday, namely, they played 1:1 with the Norwich team in front of their fans.

The big mistake for this team is the red card that Clark received in the ninth minute, so they played the whole match with a player less.

  • That was the beginning of a match we didn’t want. I was really sorry for Ryan Fraser, but it was a replacement we felt we had to do. It was not easy the whole match with a player less. I thought the audience would give us extra strength. The lads showed great perseverance, which will mean something for us in the next games as well, said Eddie Howe.
  • The challenge before us is huge. We have no illusions about the size of the task we are facing. We have to win, draws are not enough. We have to have a team spirit, that’s the only way you can achieve results as a group. I feel the spirit has grown and that will be crucial for us. The fans support us and I desperately want to reward them with victories. That’s what we all want.

Newcastle is currently in last place in the Premier League with seven defeats and the same number of draws. They will play the next game with Burnley, on Saturday at 16:00.
