Chelsea defeat AC Milan in second VisitMalta weekender match

Chelsea came out on top in the second friendly of the VisitMalta Weekender, beating AC Milan at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Before kick-off, Chelsea captain Reece James and head coach Enzo Maresca presented the Club World Cup trophy to the home fans.

Maresca made six changes from Friday’s game against Bayer Leverkusen, bringing in Tosin Adarabioyo, Pedro Neto, Enzo Fernandez, Jamie Gittens, and Joao Pedro. AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri made just one change, starting Yunus Musah after their 1-1 draw with Leeds United the day before.

Chelsea took an early lead in the 6th minute when Andrei Coubis accidentally turned Reece James’ free-kick into his own net. A minute later, Joao Pedro made it 2-0 with a header from a cross by Pedro Neto.

Milan were reduced to ten men in the 18th minute after Coubis fouled Joao Pedro in a clear goal-scoring opportunity and received a straight red card.

Cole Palmer nearly added a third with a free-kick that hit the crossbar, and Milan had a goal ruled out for offside.

Chelsea were awarded a penalty in the 67th minute when Musah fouled Estevao in the box. Substitute Liam Delap converted it for his first goal at Stamford Bridge.

Milan pulled one back in the 70th minute through Youssouf Fofana, who finished from close range after receiving a pass from Alexis Saelemaekers.

Delap sealed the win for Chelsea in the 90th minute with a low shot into the bottom left corner, making it 4-1.

After the match, Carlo Micallef, CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority, presented the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James.
