The President of Marsaxlokk FC, Frank Cachia, spoke in a phone interview yesterday evening on the program “Il-Kampjonat … L-Analiżi tat-Tnejn” on TVM Sports +, about the decision he made earlier in the day to resign from the club’s committee.
Cachia stated that last Friday he received a call from the Treasurer of the MFA, Ivan Mizzi, asking him to collect a check on behalf of the club, as they had collected all the other prize money from the Premier. According to Cachia, this check amounted to around €33,000.
The President of Marsaxlokk explained that yesterday he was informed that the check could not be collected because the club had a frozen bank account. Cachia stated that he had not been notified of this before yesterday. It appears that last week, the MFA was informed that the former President of the club, Robert Micallef, opened a case to collect money owed to him by the club during his time in charge. According to the current President Cachia, the MFA did not inform them of this.

During the program “L-Intervista,” Cachia stated that he has settled all the debt that the club had when he took over, amounting to €150,000. He does not feel it is fair because the former President decided to take back the money from the club he previously led. The current administration needs to address this issue.
Cachia mentioned that he is not willing to continue leading the club under these circumstances, and also because the MFA did not inform him of the case against the club. Cachia confirms that he will not hesitate to take back the money that was spent on Marsaxlokk FC, as every President associated with a club knows that substantial amounts of money may be involved.
During the program “Il-Kampjonat,” the President of Marsaxlokk expressed that he does not have any hope of returning to lead the club if the situation is not resolved. He made it clear that he does not want to continue in his role at the moment.
