Valencia sinking deeper

Girona hosted Valencia in the 25th round of the Spanish league and inflicted another defeat on the team led by Alex Mumbru, who are in very poor form ahead of the playoffs for the EuroLeague against Partizan and Bayern.

Iroegbu and former Red Star point guard Kino Kolom were the driving forces behind the home team’s play during the first quarter. Girona took an early lead without major problems and preserved a three-point advantage for the continuation of the match.

Inglis and Lopez-Arostegi were the most in-form players for Valencia during the first half, with additional support from Pengos during the second quarter. This trio was primarily responsible for the turnaround and Valencia’s lead towards the end of the first 20 minutes of play.

Alongside the outstanding performance of Iroegbu, Marcos and Martinez found their shooting rhythm, allowing Girona to reach a maximum lead of 14 points midway through the third quarter. However, Valencia responded towards the end of the third period, entering the decisive phase of the game with a four-point lead.

The visitors tried every means to get back into the game and approached within one point on several occasions, but Girona had a ready answer.

Two minutes before the end of the match, Iroegbu extended his team’s lead to seven points, settling the matter of the winner.

Iroegbu was the standout performer of the match with 28 points, followed by Marcos with 18 points and five rebounds.

In the losing team, Inglis stood out with a double-double performance of 18 points and 11 rebounds, Jones scored one point less, and Odzhelej finished the match with 14 points.
