The Euroleague presented new rules: Coaches have 2 challenges, you can only jump to two places for the ball!

Coaches, referees, and then players, had a meeting to agree on certain rules in the Euroleague in the season that is knocking on the door.

In exactly three days, the first ball of the new season will be kicked in the Arena at the match between Red Star Meridianbet and Asvel. From that match, the new rules start to apply.

Euroleague explained them all in detail, so let’s go in order. First of all, about the coach’s challenge. Instead of one, the heads of professional staffs will now have two each. And if they don’t use one in the first 38 minutes of the match, they lose it.

To speed up the game, referees will now only review fouls in the last two minutes of a game or in the last two minutes of overtime. Coaches can certainly use the challenge at any time to check whether it is a simple foul or an unsportsmanlike foul.

In the next season, referees will be able to use video for two more types of decisions. The first is whether the player was fouled during the shot or not, and the second is whether the attack clock should be reset or not in a situation where it is seen whether the ball touched the hoop or not. In both of these cases, coaches can also ask for a challenge.

The Euroleague emphasized that referees can request this type of check also only in the last two minutes of the game or the last two minutes of overtime.

Furthermore, any player or member of the coaching staff who leaves the bench during a discussion or argument on the field, and is not an active participant in it, will not be disqualified. Of course, the referees will have the right to watch the video to confirm which of the actors on the bench was involved in the incident or not.

Any jumps for the ball will take place on the line closest to the spot on the court. This refers to the line at midcourt or the line at the free throw line.

To simplify, for example, if a “dead” ball happens, it will no longer be jumped for where it happened (anywhere on the field), but in one of the two mentioned places.
