Slovenia won against Belgium in the round of 16 of the EuroBasket with a score of 88:72 and qualified for the quarterfinals!
Slovenian basketball players unexpectedly struggled in the round of 16.
The current champions of Europe have shown in action that they absolutely depend on one player. Luka Doncic played at the level, but the rest of the team was not at the level.
For this reason, Slovenia managed to enter the second section with plus five.
On the other hand, the Belgians played really well. They shot brilliantly outside the 6.75 line, and in addition, they showed unity both in attack and defense.
Zeeuw, Bako, Mbeumo, Tabu and Tumba were on level terms and returned the scoring plug to Belgium during the second quarter. However, that was not enough to reverse the result, so Slovenia finished the first half with a plus three.
During the third quarter we saw the same scenario as during the second quarter. In the Belgium team, De Zeeuw, as well as Mbeumo, had a blast. Doncic was still lonely.
Many coaches in the course of the championship so far believe that Luka is too protected by the referees, which we could see in action in this match as well.
Slovenia kept plus three before entering the last quarter.
Belgium opened the decisive period of the game excellently and took the lead for the first time in the game with a series of 4:0. The lead was short-lived, as Dončić got into his rhythm and once again put the Slovenians ahead.
We again saw the experience of Goran Dragic and Prepelic in action, who managed to bring plus eight to their team with important points in the middle of the fourth quarter.
By the end of the match, the current champion of Europe managed to control the tempo of the match as well as the result and celebrated with a convincing margin.
Doncic was the most effective with the winners with 35 points, while Lecomte had a notable role with Belgium with 16 points.
