Jaren Jackson Jr., the Memphis Grizzlies basketball player, was chosen as the NBA’s best defender in the 2022/23 season.
Second place in the selection went to Milwaukee center Brook Lopez, and third to Cleveland wing center Evan Mobley.
Jackson was fifth in the selection last season, but this year he received 56 out of a possible 100 votes for first place and a total of 391 points. Lopez was not far behind with 31 first-place votes and a total of 309 points, while Mobley collected 101 points.
His defense was the key to Memphis’ excellent season, which saw them finish second in the West division in the NBA league.
Jackson became only the second Memphis player (in franchise history) to win the Defensive Player of the Year award since Spanish center Marc Gasol did so in 2013.
