Olympiacos basketball player Thomas Walkup has applied for Greek citizenship in order to play for that national team.
Walkup arrived at Olympiakos from Zalgiris last summer and adapted very quickly in Greece, as evidenced by the signing of a contract until 2027 with the team from Piraeus.
In a letter to the local basketball association, he pointed out that Greece became his new home during that period, and we should soon receive confirmation of this information.
Moreover, the association confirmed that the procedure has started for the player who reached first place in the Euroleague this season to strengthen “Helene”.
The goal is for the American to play for Greece at the World Cup in Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines in late August and early September.
Walkup is averaging 7.9 points, 5.9 assists, and 2.8 rebounds in 34 Euroleague games this season.
