Hibernians secured the BOV Basketball Amateur League title after completing a commanding 3-0 sweep over Qormi Dragons in the best-of-five playoff finals. The Paolites showcased their dominance throughout the series to clinch their fifth championship in the league’s history.
The series opened with a statement performance from Hibernians, who dismantled Qormi Dragons with a 30-point victory, winning 87-57. Teodor Gjurovski led the charge with a double-double of 30 points and 15 rebounds, while Luke Attard added 27 points and 7 rebounds in a strong all-around display.
In Game 2, Hibernians continued their form with a 90-67 win. Stefan Simic emerged as the key figure, registering 28 points and 12 rebounds. Luke Attard also played a vital supporting role, contributing 11 points and dishing out 7 assists as Hibernians took a 2-0 lead in the series.
The third encounter proved to be the most competitive of the series. Qormi Dragons battled hard and trailed by just two points late in the third quarter at 61-59. However, the momentum shifted dramatically after Qormi’s playmaker Christoff, who had already scored 22 points, was forced off due to injury. Hibernians capitalised on his absence to seal an 85-78 victory and with it, the championship.
Stefan Simic’s consistent impact throughout the finals earned him the Most Valuable Player award. He recorded a total of 64 points, 28 rebounds, and 22 assists across the three games. Simic was presented with a custom-made MVP token by Malta Basketball Association President Paul Sultana, in the presence of Bank of Valletta’s Chief Operations Officer, Ernest Agius.
The celebrations were officially underway when Ernest Agius handed over the BOV Amateur League Trophy to Hibernians captain Luke Attard, who lifted the silverware amid loud cheers from teammates and fans. The victory caps off a dominant playoff run for Hibernians and reinforces their status as one of the leading forces in the local amateur basketball scene.
