Euroleague's "Dubai" project inching closer to fruition

A new project called “Dubai” is set to take the Euroleague by storm. According to Mundo Deportivo, a mid-March meeting will be held by the competition’s board, with the project’s announcement as the sole agenda item.

The project is spearheaded by Abdullah Al Nabodah, who owns the Dubai basketball club and is one of the wealthiest individuals in the country. He is offering 150 million euros for a six-year deal, which includes the participation of one team from Dubai in the competition and the organization of two final fours in 2025 and 2029.

Negotiations for the “Dubai” project have been going on for several years, but it appears that the initiative is gaining momentum. Dejan Kamenjasevic and Djordje Djokovic, brother of tennis star Novak Djokovic, are leading the negotiations on behalf of Al Nabodah. The project has the support of the Sheikh of the United Arab Emirates.

Representatives from 13 licensed clubs, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, traveled to Dubai last October to learn more about the potential partnership.

The green or red light will be given by all 13 license holders during the mid-March meeting, and the project could finally become a reality.
