Novak Djokovic may be the undisputed king of tennis, but there’s one Argentine player who’s been chasing him for years.
Tomas Etcheverry, who started playing professionally in 2017 when Djokovic was on top of the ATP rankings, has made it his mission to close the gap between him and the Serbian superstar.
Despite the 12,000 point difference when he started, Etcheverry has been competing in smaller tournaments and working his way up the rankings, all the while keeping his followers on social media updated on his progress. In 2022, he made his Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open, but was defeated in the first round by Pablo Carreño Busta.
But Etcheverry hasn’t given up on his dream yet. In fact, he’s made a big leap forward in the rankings, moving up 15 spots to become the 61st best player in the world, with 822 points. His obsession with chasing Djokovic has become a hit on social media, and fans are rooting for him to keep climbing the rankings and closing the gap between him and the world’s number-one player.
