The situation between Russia and Ukraine also affects sports, and now new information concerning the Euroleague is arriving.
Namely, it is already known that the Euroleague postponed three games against Russian clubs, ie Bayern – CSKA, Baskonia – UNICS, Zenit – Barcelona.
The matches have been “only” postponed, so the question is where and when those matches will be played. As Meridian Sport unofficially finds out, the first destination in Serbia.
Namely, all Russian clubs list Serbia as the number one destination for postponed matches, so it remains to be seen when they will be played.
The situation on the Euroleague table is as follows: Bayern is currently in 11th place, CSKA in the sixth, Basconia in 16th, Unix in eighth, Zenit in fifth, and Barcelona in first.
Due to the situation, the Euroleague made the following decisions:
– to define a plan according to which all matches that were supposed to be played on the territory of Russia will be moved to other locations;
– that matches of Russian teams outside the territory of Russia are played according to the schedule;
– to postpone the match between CSKA and Barcelona, which was scheduled for Sunday, February 27
The Euroleague then adds:
– The stated decisions are in line with the most important priority of the Euroleague, and that is the protection of the integrity of players, coaches, fans and staff, without taking the slightest risk. The Euroleague, on behalf of its clubs, strongly condemns the war in Ukraine. The clubs are united in their intention to use the power of basketball to unite nations. Violence of any kind is in conflict with our values, it is not tolerated or accepted – it is stated in the statement.
